PRINT FROM YOUR MOBILE DEVICE

HP mobile printing technology lets you print from your smartphone or tablet to easily.

To Print:

  1. Mobile device and printer must be on the same network.
  2. Select the photo or document to print, and select your printer.
  3. Confirm print settings and print. 

PRINT WITH AIRPRINT

Apple’s AirPrint, supported by  iOS 4.2 and Mac OS X 10.7 or later, can send prints wirelessly to the printer from your iPad (iOS 4.2), iPhone (3GS or later), or iPod select (third generation or later).

Supported mobile applications:

  • Mail
  • Photos
  • Safari
  • Third-party applications like Evernote.

To use AirPrint, the AirPrint enabled printer must be connected to the same network as your Apple device.

PRINT PHOTOS

To print a photo from the printer software (Windows)

  1. Load the photo paper into the tray, and select Print.
  2. Select your printer.
  3. Open Properties.
  4. Select the required options and then click Print 

To print a photo from the computer (OS X)

  1. Click File and then Print.
  2. Select your printer.
  3. Set the print options, like paper size or orientation.
  4. Select any other settings you want, and then click Print.

Check the estimated ink levels 

Check ink levels from the printer control panel:

From the Home screen, select the Ink icon. It displays the estimated ink levels in the cartridges. 

Check ink levels from the printer software (Windows):

Open the HP printer software and select Estimated Ink Levels. 

Check the ink levels from HP Utility:

  1. Open Applications folder à Hewlett-Packard àHP Utility
  2. Select from the list of devices, HP ENVY 5540 series.
  3. Click on Supplies Status. The ink levels appear.
  4. Click on All Settings to return to Information and Support tab. 

NOTE:

  • The ink levels indicated may be inaccurate for a refilled or remanufactured cartridge or a cartridge used in another computer.
  • Low ink warning does not mean that you have to replace the cartridges immediately. It is a cue to consider changing cartridges. Replace it only when the print quality becomes unacceptable.

Tips for working with cartridges

  • Always switch the printer off, when not in use, to protect the cartridges from drying out. The ON button should be long pressed, until its light goes off.
  • Open or remove the tape from the cartridges only when you are ready to install them. The tape on the cartridges helps reduce ink evaporation.
  • Insert the ink cartridges into their respective slots. The cartridges and the slots are color coded.
  • Low ink warning does not mean that you have to replace the cartridges immediately. It is a cue to consider changing cartridges. Replace it only when the print quality becomes unacceptable.
  • Try to replace a removed cartridge, into the printer, as soon as possible.
  • An unprotected cartridge, stored outside the printer, begins to dry out.

HP Printer Connectivity

  1. Open Utilities on your HP printer software
  • For Windows 8.1: Click the down arrow in lower left corner of the Start screen. Select your printer and then click on Utilities.
  • For Windows 8: Right-click an empty area on the Start screen, select All Apps, printer name, and then click Utilities.
  • For Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP: From the desktop, click Start, All Programs, HP, and select the folder with your printer’s name.
  1. Select Printer Setup & Software.
  2. Select Convert USB connected printer to wireless and follow the onscreen instructions.

Test the wireless connection

The wireless test report gives you information on the printer’s wireless connection, like the printer status, hardware (MAC) address, IP address etc. When the printer is connected to a network, the report generated has the details of the network settings.

To print the wireless test report

  1. Click the Wireless icon on the printer control panel and then select Settings.
  2. Select Print Reports
  3. Select Wireless Test Report.

  

Open the embedded Web server

The embedded Web server can be accessed, either from the network or through Wi-Fi Direct.

Open the embedded Web server through a network:

NOTE: The printer must be connected to a network and have an IP address. The IP address can be found by a pressing the Wireless icon or you can print a network configuration page.

  • In the Web browser on your computer, type the IP address of the printer. Example: https://192.168.223.1.

Open the embedded Web server using Wi-Fi Direct:

  1. From the Home screen, click Wi-Fi Direct.
  2. If Wi-Fi Direct is switched OFF, click on Settings, and then click on Wi-Fi Direct.
  3. Switch wireless ON, on your computer and search for the Wi-Fi Direct name and connect to it.
  4. When prompted, enter the Wi-Fi Direct password.
  5. In the Web browser on your computer, type the IP address of the printer. Example: https://192.168.223.1.
